Delhi: Two alleged shooters linked to the Himanshu Bhau gang were injured in an exchange of fire with police in Delhi’s Bakkarwala area, officials said. The incident unfolded during an operation launched after the Crime Branch received information about a suspected plan to target an individual.

According to Delhi Police, intelligence inputs indicated that shooters associated with the gang were expected to reach Bakkarwala to carry out a murder. The information also suggested that gang leader Himanshu Bhau had allegedly threatened Dr Narendra Sharma, who owns RRM Hospital.

Following the input, ASI Jasbir from the CIA and his team joined the Crime Branch personnel. The teams jointly worked on developing the intelligence and subsequently spotted a Mahindra Thar matching their information.

Police signalled the vehicle to stop, but its driver allegedly accelerated and tried to flee towards the UER service road near a flyover. During the attempted escape, the Thar collided with a Mahindra utility/pick-up vehicle.

Two people then reportedly got out of the damaged SUV and ran towards Bakkarwala Nala Road. Police said the suspects were asked to surrender but allegedly responded by opening fire at the pursuing teams.

Officials said around eight rounds were fired by the suspects in the direction of the police personnel. The police teams then retaliated, initially firing six rounds into the air as warning shots before using controlled fire against the two accused.

Both suspects suffered gunshot injuries and were subsequently apprehended by the police.

The injured suspects have been identified as Sameer, 19, a resident of Rithal Phogat in Haryana’s Rohtak district, and a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL). Their identities and alleged roles are being verified as part of the investigation.

Police said the two injured suspects were immediately taken to RTR Hospital in a private vehicle for medical treatment. Officials also recovered two Glock pistols allegedly from their possession.

The investigation is now focused on establishing the suspects’ alleged links with the Himanshu Bhau gang, verifying the intended target and determining the purpose of their presence in the Bakkarwala area. Further details are expected as the probe progresses.
