New Delhi: Tragedy struck in central Delhi’s Mandir Marg area when a Delhi Police PCR van was involved in a fatal accident, leaving one person dead.
According to officials, the incident occurred when the van’s driver inadvertently accelerated while trying to maneuver the vehicle onto a roadside ramp. The van hit a bystander, who sustained critical injuries and later died at the scene.
Additional DCP (New Delhi) Hukma Ram confirmed the accident, describing it as “deeply unfortunate.” He added, “Legal proceedings are being followed. The victim’s family will receive all possible assistance and due compensation. CCTV footage from the area will also be reviewed to establish the exact sequence of events.”
Police teams were deployed immediately after the incident to secure the spot and collect evidence. An inquiry is currently underway to determine if negligence was involved and whether departmental action is warranted.
The mishap has raised questions on the need for stricter adherence to driving protocols for police emergency vehicles, which are often required to respond swiftly but must also ensure public safety.
