Chandigarh: Chandigarh witnessed a strong response to the recent VIP vehicle registration number e-auction, with the most sought-after number, CH01-DC-0001, being sold for ₹31.35 lakh, making it the highest-priced number in the auction.
The Chandigarh Administration conducted the e-auction of VIP and fancy registration numbers from December 20 to December 22, during which 485 numbers were successfully sold, generating a total revenue of ₹29.631 million.
According to officials from the Registration and Licensing Authority (RLA), the auction included numbers from the newly introduced CH01-DC series (0001 to 9999) along with remaining fancy and special numbers from earlier series.
After CH01-DC-0001, the second most expensive number was CH01-DC-0009, which fetched ₹20.72 lakh. Other high-value numbers included CH01-DC-0007 sold for ₹16.13 lakh, CH01-DC-9999 for ₹13.66 lakh, and CH01-DC-0005 for ₹11.7 lakh.
Several other premium numbers also attracted competitive bids. CH01-DC-0010 was sold for ₹10.17 lakh, CH01-DC-0006 for ₹7.02 lakh, CH01-DC-0003 for ₹5.63 lakh, and CH01-DC-7777 for ₹5.26 lakh.
Officials said that the Transport Department conducts VIP number auctions multiple times a year to boost government revenue. Interested buyers can obtain these numbers either through competitive bidding or by paying a fixed amount for certain VVIP numbers.
The department also facilitates online booking of VIP numbers, where a complete list of available numbers is published on the official website. The number is allotted to the highest bidder within the specified time frame. This process is carried out annually, with new VIP numbers being added as registration series progress.
