Chandigarh: The craze for fancy vehicle numbers in Chandigarh has reached new heights after registration number CH01-DA-0001 fetched a record bid of Rs 36.43 lakh in an e-auction held by the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA), Sector-17.

This is now the most expensive vehicle number in the city’s history, beating all previous records. The second-highest bid in the CH01-DA series was for CH01-DA-0003, which sold for Rs 17.84 lakh.

The RLA’s previous record came during the CH01-CW series auction, when number 0001 was sold for Rs 16.50 lakh and 0009 went for Rs 10 lakh, generating total revenue of Rs 2.26 crore from 489 fancy numbers.

Officials said only Chandigarh residents are allowed to participate in these e-auctions, after registering on the National Transport website. Successful bidders are required to deposit the bid amount before the number is officially allotted.

The latest auction underscores Chandigarh’s growing fascination with premium registration numbers, where prestige and exclusivity continue to outweigh the price tag.
