Chandigarh: The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved a special grant of ₹125 crore for Chandigarh’s Municipal Corporation, offering major relief to the city’s civic administration. The grant, sanctioned under Grant No. 53 Chandigarh by order dated August 27, 2025, will help restore stalled projects and strengthen essential services.
The funds will ensure uninterrupted sanitation, water supply, waste management, and street lighting across the city. Key infrastructure projects, including the carpeting and maintenance of V4, V5, and V6 roads, are set to resume. Development initiatives that had been delayed due to financial constraints will now move forward.
Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla welcomed the allocation, calling it a “big relief” for city residents. She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, BJP Chandigarh President Jatinder Malhotra, and senior officials for their efforts in securing the grant.
The approval underscores strong coordination between the Central Government and the BJP-led Municipal Corporation in securing resources for the Union Territory. It also reflects a renewed push toward improving Chandigarh’s urban infrastructure and public services.
