Chandigarh: A massive search operation was launched at Post Graduate Government College, Sector 42 (Dr. Ambedkar College), in Chandigarh on Monday morning, April 20, 2026, following a bomb threat. The Chandigarh Police control room received a message claiming that the college campus would be blown up, prompting immediate deployment of the Bomb Disposal Squad, Dog Squad, and emergency services. This incident follows a series of recent hoax threats targeting several city schools and the Secretariat earlier this month.

Upon receiving the alert, police teams cordoned off the entire campus and successfully evacuated all students and staff members. Classrooms, administrative blocks, laboratories, and the surrounding areas were thoroughly scanned. Security was also tightened at entry and exit points, with every individual and vehicle being subjected to rigorous checking. While the search operation caused significant chaos and interrupted ongoing academic activities, officials have urged the public to remain calm while they verify the credibility of the threat.

The Cyber Cell of the Chandigarh Police has initiated an investigation to trace the origin of the message. Authorities are examining whether this threat is linked to previous emails sent on April 6 and April 16, which targeted over a dozen educational institutions and government buildings in the tricity area. Although prior threats were declared hoaxes, the police are maintaining high vigilance to ensure the safety of the student community.
