Deputy Chief Whip leads Vidhan Sabha panel meet, calls for acceleration of Hydel power initiatives

Shimla: The meeting of the General Development Committee of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly was held on Monday under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the committee, Kewal Singh Pathania. During the meeting, the committee obtained detailed information from the departmental representatives regarding the Shongtong-Karcham, Kashang (Phase-II & III) in Kinnaur district and Chanju (Phase-II & III) in Chamba district hydroelectric projects. The concerned officials were directed to ensure the timely completion of these projects.

Pathania stated that delays in the construction of these projects were causing financial losses to the State. He stressed that all works must be completed within the stipulated timelines to avoid further losses to the State ex-chequer. The committee also decided to conduct an on-site inspection of all the three projects.

In addition, the committee reviewed the grant demands of the Electricity Development Department for the financial year 2023-24.

The meeting was attended by committee members MLA’s Rakesh Kalia, Vinod Kumar, Randhir Sharma, Jeet Ram Katwal, Daleep Thakur, Sudarshan Singh Bablu and Hardeep Singh Baba. Also present were Secretary (Power) Rakesh Kanwar, Director (Civil) Surender Kumar, Director (Finance) Naresh Thakur, and Director (Electrical) Manish Mahajan.
