Punjab Health Directorate Imposes Immediate Ban on Eight Medicines After Reports of Adverse Reactions

Chandigarh: The Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, has issued an immediate ban on the use and procurement of eight medicines across all government hospitals following reports of adverse patient reactions.

The move comes after multiple complaints were received regarding the safety of certain drugs administered in state-run healthcare facilities. Acting on these reports, the Directorate identified that the banned medicines were produced by three pharmaceutical companies.

In its directive, the Health Department instructed all Civil Surgeons and Medical Superintendents to halt the use and purchase of these medicines with immediate effect. Strict compliance has been mandated across all government healthcare institutions to safeguard public health.

Officials stated that further investigation is underway to assess the extent of the issue and determine whether the drugs violated safety or quality norms. The Health Directorate is also coordinating with the State Drug Controller to ensure accountability from the concerned pharmaceutical manufacturers.
