Mumbai: A late-night drive turned disastrous when a Porsche sports car, reportedly speeding at around 150 kmph, lost control and slammed into a road divider on the Western Express Highway near Jogeshwari in the early hours of Thursday. The crash left the driver seriously injured and the vehicle completely wrecked.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 am under the Jogeshwari Metro Station. According to bystanders, the Porsche appeared to be racing alongside a BMW moments before the collision. Witnesses claim the Porsche suddenly veered off course and smashed into the central divider with tremendous force.
“The two cars were going at a very high speed, and suddenly the Porsche swerved and hit the divider. It looked like they were racing,” said an eyewitness who was present near the scene.
There were two occupants in the Porsche at the time of the crash. Although the airbags deployed, the driver sustained major injuries. Emergency responders and local police reached the location shortly after and rushed the injured individual to a nearby hospital for medical care. The condition of the passenger has not yet been disclosed.
Photos from the crash site show the luxury car crumpled almost beyond recognition, underscoring the intensity of the impact.
Authorities have begun a formal investigation into the incident. While initial accounts suggest illegal street racing may have been involved, officials are also examining CCTV footage and other evidence to determine the exact sequence of events. Police are yet to confirm whether any charges will be filed.
The crash has renewed concerns over high-speed driving and illegal racing on Mumbai’s arterial roads, particularly during late-night hours when traffic enforcement is often minimal.
