Chandigarh: Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women & Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, announced that the state government has earmarked ₹1,170 crore for its financial assistance scheme for widows and destitute women for the fiscal year 2025-26.
She revealed that as of August 2025, ₹593.14 crore has already been disbursed directly to 6.66 lakh women beneficiaries. “The Mann Government’s goal is not just to provide financial aid but to empower women to become confident and self-reliant,” Dr. Baljit Kaur said.
The minister added that the scheme goes beyond monetary support, aiming to instill hope and resilience in women facing life’s challenges. “Each beneficiary, through this assistance, not only sustains her family but also builds a brighter future for her children,” she stated.
Dr. Baljit Kaur further emphasized that these initiatives strengthen women, enabling them to contribute actively and constructively to their families and society. She also highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure transparency and efficiency, noting that assistance funds are now credited directly into beneficiaries’ accounts without delay.
Concluding her remarks, the minister said that under Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, Punjab is steadily progressing towards becoming a socially secure, empowered, and inclusive state.
