Hyderabad: A 21-year-old engineering student was allegedly assaulted during a ‘Dandiya’ programme held at a local hotel, police said on Thursday.

According to the student’s complaint, he had attended the event with two friends. While participating in the dandiya, he was beaten by two unidentified individuals, sustaining minor injuries.

Panjagutta Police Station officials confirmed that a case was registered following the complaint, and two persons have been taken into custody. Police added that the accused suspected the student of misbehaving with some women attendees, although no such incident had occurred.

Authorities also clarified that reports suggesting the assault was linked to the student’s name or community were inaccurate. Investigations are ongoing.
