Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday raised concerns over growing economic inequalities, the concentration of power, and environmental degradation, urging India to present an alternative model of development that ensures harmony, inclusivity, and ecological balance.

Delivering his customary Vijayadashami address from Nagpur at the start of the RSS centenary year, Bhagwat said India’s economic indicators may reflect progress, but the widening gap between the rich and poor signals deeper flaws. He emphasized that the current global system encourages exploitation, environmental damage, and unchecked transactionalism, which calls for a shift in approach.

“The Sanatan, spiritual and holistic vision of India can balance material well-being with intellectual, cultural, and environmental development. This integrated model can provide permanent solutions to global challenges,” Bhagwat said, adding that India must lead by example in presenting a path of sustainable growth.

Addressing social concerns, the RSS chief warned against forces trying to deepen divisions within society. He urged citizens not to allow diversity to turn into discord and stressed that democratic means, not violent revolutions, are the only way to bring lasting change. Referring to recent unrest in neighboring countries, he noted that discontent often stems from poor governance and the disconnect between state institutions and society.

Highlighting India’s unity in diversity, Bhagwat recalled B.R. Ambedkar’s belief in cultural cohesion and said the nation’s strength lies in its social unity. He underlined that Hindu society has a duty to uphold the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and contribute to global welfare.

“Hindu rashtriyata has always preserved unity while respecting diversity. States may rise and fall, but the concept of ‘Rashtra’ remains eternal,” Bhagwat said, with former President Ram Nath Kovind attending the event as chief guest.

As the RSS marks its centenary year, Bhagwat’s message underscored the organization’s agenda of consolidating Hindu society and promoting an inclusive vision for Bharat’s future.
