Punjab Braces for Weather Shift from October 4, Light Rain Predicted Across State

After days of dry heat, Punjab is set to experience a change in weather starting October 4, with light to moderate rain forecast in several parts of the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The shift is expected to bring a slight dip in temperatures and brief relief from the lingering post-monsoon heat.

Although the southwest monsoon has officially withdrawn from Punjab and Chandigarh, a sudden spell of rain on Tuesday night surprised many, offering a short-lived respite. The weather is likely to stay dry across most regions until October 3, but cloud cover and scattered rainfall are expected from October 4 to 6.

Meteorologists attribute the upcoming changes to a low-pressure area developing over the Arabian Sea, which is influencing wind patterns across northern India. While no major weather disturbances are expected, the cloudy skies and intermittent rain may provide temporary relief from the seasonal heat.

Currently, Punjab’s average maximum temperature has dropped slightly to around 34.6°C, a 0.4°C decline from the previous average. Despite this minor drop, Bathinda remains the hottest spot, recording a high of 37.5°C.

The IMD has clarified that this is a temporary shift, not a return of the monsoon, but it may bring brief cooler moments for residents across the state before the full onset of autumn.
