Chandigarh: On the final day of the Punjab Assembly session, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora defended the state government’s handling of the recent floods while taking aim at opposition leaders. Speaking during the debate on the “Punjab Rehabilitation” resolution, Arora said the devastation caused by the floods was unprecedented in Punjab’s history.

He stated that ahead of the disaster, the government had already ensured the cleaning of drains and canals and had deployed ministers to areas that were expected to face waterlogging. “Our representatives were present even in places that saw minimal flooding,” he said, emphasizing that the administration acted before the crisis unfolded.

Arora added that the public showed remarkable affection towards government representatives during the floods, which he described as deeply moving. Responding to Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa’s remarks about “posing on bamboo structures,” he said, “We did not climb bamboo scaffolds just for photos. We are people who work on the ground.”

He further highlighted that discussions on desilting have been ongoing for the past month and asserted that the government tried its best to perform its duties effectively. Arora noted that the Beas river caused extensive destruction, but the present AAP government has spent significantly more on desilting operations compared to previous Congress governments.
