New Delhi: Delhi witnessed a sudden surge in health complaints on Tuesday as nearly 150 to 200 individuals reported symptoms such as nausea and vomiting after consuming buckwheat flour, locally known as kuttu ka atta, officials confirmed.
The initial distress calls began arriving at around 6:10 a.m., alerting authorities to multiple cases of discomfort in various neighborhoods. Most of those affected sought medical attention at BJRM Hospital, where they were treated and monitored. According to Dr. Vishesh Yadav, Chief Medical Officer at BJRM, the patients exhibited mild symptoms and were in stable condition. None required hospital admission.
Those impacted reside in areas including Jahangirpuri, Mahendra Park, Samaypur, Bhalswa Dairy, Lal Bagh, and Swaroop Nagar. Authorities are working to identify the exact source and assess the quality of the buckwheat flour linked to these cases.
The local food safety department has launched an investigation to trace the origin of the flour and determine whether contamination or adulteration played a role in the outbreak. Police and health officials continue to coordinate efforts to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further incidents.
Meanwhile, residents are advised to exercise caution with food products and report any unusual symptoms to health authorities promptly.
