Hollongi, Arunachal Pradesh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday for a day-long visit, landing at Donyi Polo Airport in Hollongi before proceeding to Raj Bhavan in Itanagar by helicopter.
On arrival, Modi engaged with local shopkeepers and traders as the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms came into effect. The updated regime reduces GST on 375 items—including essentials, electronics, and automobiles—and introduces a simplified two-tier tax slab system. PM Modi called the GST reduction the beginning of a ‘Bachat Utsav’ (Savings Festival), coinciding with the start of the festive season. During the interaction, he also distributed placards reading ‘Garv se kaho yeh swadeshi hai,’ which the shopkeepers pledged to display in their stores.
At Raj Bhavan, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Governor KT Parnaik, marking the start of his official engagements in the state.
