Samastipur: Four people have been arrested in Bihar’s Samastipur district after a video circulating on social media allegedly showed a young woman being physically harassed and verbally abused in broad daylight.
The arrests were made on Thursday morning after the footage gained widespread attention online. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which reportedly took place near the Jagat Singh embankment under the Karpuri Gram police station area.
The authenticity and exact date of the video have not been independently verified. However, police acted after the footage came to their attention and detained four suspects in connection with the incident.
Police Begin Probe After Video Surfaces
The case comes days after a separate alleged assault involving a Class 10 girl in Bihar’s Jamui district triggered widespread outrage.
Authorities in Samastipur are now examining the circumstances surrounding the latest incident, including the identities and roles of those allegedly involved. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan condemned the alleged incident and warned that people involved in such acts would face legal action.
He also said those who record such incidents or use social media to circulate such material would not be spared.
Jamui Case Also Triggered Action Over Viral Video
The Samastipur incident comes amid continued attention on the Jamui case, where a purported video allegedly showing the harassment and assault of two minor girls circulated on social media.
Police subsequently took action against accounts allegedly sharing footage that could expose the identities of the minor victims. An FIR was reportedly registered against around 120 social media profiles in connection with the circulation of the material.
Jamui Police had also appealed to the public not to share offensive or identifying videos and posts involving minor victims.
Police have arrested several suspects in the Jamui case, while teams continue to conduct raids to locate others allegedly linked to the incident. One accused who was injured during a police encounter is undergoing treatment at Jamui Sadar Hospital.
The Samastipur investigation remains underway, with police expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the video and the alleged harassment.
