Asian Games 2026: Smriti Mandhana added another historic achievement to her name during India’s Asian Games 2026 final against Sri Lanka in Japan on Tuesday. The Indian opener became the first woman cricketer in history to cross the 11,000-run mark in international cricket.
Mandhana reached the milestone during an explosive innings in the gold-medal clash, continuing her remarkable run across formats. She eventually made 79 from 45 balls, smashing five fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 175.56.
Smriti Mandhana Reaches Major Cricket Milestone
The landmark further underlines Mandhana’s standing as one of the most prolific batters in women’s international cricket.
Her international tally includes runs across Tests, ODIs and T20Is. Before the Asian Games final, she had scored 788 runs in nine Tests, 5,411 in 120 ODIs and 4,867 in 179 T20I matches.
With her latest innings, Mandhana took her overall international tally beyond 11,000 runs, becoming the first woman to achieve the feat.
She has also established herself as the leading run-scorer in women’s T20I cricket, while her ODI record includes 14 centuries and 35 half-centuries.
Mandhana And Shafali Set Up India’s Big Total
India won the toss and chose to bat first in the Asian Games final. Mandhana immediately took control of the innings, combining with Shafali Verma to put Sri Lanka’s bowlers under pressure.
The opening pair added 99 runs before Shafali was dismissed after scoring 48 off 29 balls. Her innings included three fours and three sixes.
Mandhana continued attacking before her dismissal for 79, leaving India in a strong position.
Richa Ghosh Provides Late Firepower
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur could contribute only 19 runs from 17 deliveries, but India finished strongly thanks to Richa Ghosh.
The wicketkeeper-batter produced a blistering unbeaten 49 from just 22 balls. She struck six fours and three sixes to give India’s innings a late boost.
India finished their 20 overs at 216/3, setting Sri Lanka a target of 217 in the Asian Games gold-medal match.
Mandhana’s Record-Breaking International Career
The 11,000-run milestone adds to a growing list of records held by Mandhana. She is the highest run-scorer in women’s T20Is and has remained one of India’s most consistent batters across formats.
Her latest achievement came on one of the biggest stages of the Asian Games, with Mandhana once again producing a significant performance when India needed a strong start.
