Asian Games 2026: Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty, Srikanth Guide India To 3-0 Win Over Bangladesh

Aichi-Nagoya: India produced a dominant performance in the men’s badminton team event at the Asian Games 2026, defeating Bangladesh 3-0 on Monday to advance to the quarterfinals.

Lakshya Sen set the tone for India in the opening singles match, cruising past Ayman Ibn Jaman 21-4, 21-12.

Sen controlled the contest from the beginning and gave India a 1-0 lead without much difficulty.

Ayush Shetty then extended India’s advantage with another commanding straight-game victory. Shetty defeated Gourab Singha 21-4, 21-13 to leave India one win away from sealing the tie.

Experienced campaigner Kidambi Srikanth completed the job in the third singles match. Srikanth overcame Al Amin Jumar 21-15, 21-9 to give India an unassailable 3-0 lead.

With India winning all three singles matches, the remaining doubles encounters were not required.

India are now through to the quarterfinals of the men’s badminton team event, where they are expected to face Japan in the next round.

India Enjoy Busy Day At Asian Games 2026

The badminton victory was part of a packed day for the Indian contingent, with athletes making progress across several disciplines and adding medals to the country’s tally.

Shooting remained one of India’s biggest contributors. Himanshu Dhillon won silver and Rudrankksh Patil secured bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle individual event.

The duo had earlier combined with Parth Mane to win silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event.

In the qualification round, Rudrankksh finished third, Dhillon seventh and Mane 11th to make it to the individual final.

India Win Bronze In MMA

India also added a bronze medal in mixed martial arts through Suchika Tariyal.

Tariyal finished third in the women’s traditional 60kg category after losing her semifinal against Singapore’s Teo Hui Hoon.

Women’s Hockey Team Thrash Indonesia 17-1

India’s women’s hockey team registered a massive 17-1 victory over Indonesia in their Pool B encounter.

The emphatic win further strengthened India’s campaign in the women’s hockey competition.

India Beat Japan In Men’s Kabaddi

The Indian men’s kabaddi team also continued its campaign with a convincing 49-23 victory over Japan in their Group A match.

India maintained control throughout the contest to register another comfortable win.

Sumit Advances In Boxing

In boxing, Indian boxer Sumit Kundu progressed to the next round after defeating Thailand’s Bunjong Sinsiri in the men’s 70kg Round of 32 bout.

The victory kept India’s boxing campaign moving at the continental Games.

Women’s Table Tennis Team Beat Pakistan 3-0

India’s women’s table tennis team also registered a clean sweep, defeating Pakistan 3-0 in their Group F encounter.

The result helped India advance to the quarterfinal stage.

Srihari Nataraj Reaches Swimming Final

Indian swimmer Srihari Nataraj qualified for the men’s 50m backstroke final.

Rishabh Das missed automatic qualification and remained a reserve.

In the men’s 50m freestyle, Mani Akash and Gitesh Shah failed to qualify for the final, while Dhanush Suresh also missed out in the men’s 100m breaststroke.

Mixed Results For India In Soft Tennis

Aadhya Tiwari and Jay Meena recorded wins in the mixed doubles competition, defeating Cambodia’s Viva Chao-Chanroseka Khun 5-0 and also overcoming Mongolia’s Bud Nyamdorj-Enkhkhuslen Ganbaatar.

The Indian pair subsequently lost to South Korea’s Kim Yeon-hwa and Jaekyu Park before exiting following a Round of 16 defeat against the Philippines’ Christy Sanosa and Sherwin Nuguit.

India Finish 15th In Wushu

In wushu, Nyeman Wangsu finished 15th in the women’s Changquan final.

India’s men’s team, meanwhile, suffered a defeat against Japan in the Sepaktakraw team regu Group B match.

Indian Shooters In Skeet Qualification

In women’s skeet qualification, Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Maheshwari Chauhan finished ninth, 14th and 16th, respectively, after Day 1.

In the men’s skeet qualification, Anant Jeet Singh Naruka finished 21st, followed by Mairaj Khan in 26th and Bhavtegh Singh Gill in 27th.

With badminton, hockey, kabaddi, boxing, table tennis and shooting all producing significant results, Monday has turned into another busy day for India’s Asian Games campaign.
