New Delhi: India summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi on Wednesday to register a strong protest over what the Ministry of External Affairs described as unacceptable and unprofessional conduct by Pakistani naval units, which resulted in a collision with an Indian Navy vessel. The mid-sea incident occurred on the evening of September 15 in the North Arabian Sea, where an Indian warship engaged in routine surveillance was approached by a Pakistani vessel whose manoeuvring led to the contact. Indian authorities confirmed that the encounter took place in international waters and resulted in no major damage to the vessel.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the actions of the Pakistani ship stood in direct contravention of Article 10 of the bilateral April 1991 Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres, and Troop Movements. The Pakistani envoy was urged to direct military authorities in Islamabad to exercise caution and adhere strictly to established bilateral protocols to prevent future incidents. In a parallel diplomatic measure, India’s Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad was instructed to lodge a formal demarche with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
