Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is likely to remain under the influence of the monsoon for the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued rainfall across parts of the state. A Yellow Alert for heavy rain has been issued for seven districts on Wednesday.
The warning covers Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur, where isolated spells of heavy rain are possible.
Rain to continue over next four days
According to the weather department, light to moderate rainfall is expected at several places during the coming four days. The possibility of intense showers remains higher in the districts covered under the yellow warning.
The forecast comes amid an active monsoon spell that has already resulted in landslides, road blockages and waterlogging at various locations across Himachal Pradesh.
Alerts for August 20 and 21
The weather department has also issued a yellow warning for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi on August 20.
On August 21, the alert will remain limited to Kangra and Mandi, while no warning has been issued for the other districts.
Residents and travellers in the affected areas are likely to face difficult conditions if heavy showers trigger landslides or debris movement along vulnerable hill roads.
Weather likely to improve from August 23
The rainfall activity is expected to gradually decline towards the weekend. Some areas may receive light rain or drizzle on August 22, but a significant change in weather conditions is forecast thereafter.
According to the IMD outlook, the monsoon is likely to weaken from August 23, with clearer and sunnier conditions expected across much of the state.
The improvement could provide some relief to areas affected by recent landslides and road disruptions, while also allowing authorities to accelerate restoration work on damaged routes.
