Chandigarh: Rainfall brought a change in weather conditions across Chandigarh, Mohali and parts of Punjab on Tuesday, with the Meteorological Department warning of heavier showers in several areas over the next two days.
The Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh has issued a Yellow Alert for Punjab, forecasting heavy rain at some places on August 18 and 19. Chandigarh has also been placed under a rain warning for Tuesday.
Several parts of the state received light to moderate showers accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms during the past 24 hours. The wet spell resulted in a slight fall in temperatures, with Punjab’s average maximum temperature declining by 0.6 degrees Celsius.
Despite the cooler conditions, Ferozepur remained the warmest location in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius.
Rain to Continue Through August 19
The weather department expects rainfall across most parts of Punjab and Chandigarh on August 18. Punjab could witness another spell of heavy rain on August 19, while Chandigarh is likely to receive light to moderate showers.
Conditions are expected to improve somewhat between August 20 and 23, although overcast skies and occasional light rain may continue in different areas.
Chandigarh Temperatures Likely to Stay Around 33-34°C
Chandigarh is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 33-34 degrees Celsius during the coming days. The maximum and minimum temperatures on August 18 are likely to remain near 33°C and 25°C respectively.
On August 19, the temperature is expected to stay around 33°C during the day and 24°C at night. The maximum could rise to around 34°C on August 20 and 21, when cloudy conditions, rain and thunderstorms may continue. Partly cloudy weather is expected on August 22.
Fatehgarh Sahib Records Highest Rainfall
Fatehgarh Sahib received the highest rainfall in Punjab during the 24-hour period, recording 37 mm. Rauni in Patiala received 20.5 mm, while Ballowal in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar recorded 13.6 mm.
Mohali recorded 12 mm of rain, followed by 5.5 mm in Patiala and 1.5 mm in Chandigarh. Amritsar reported only trace rainfall.
The latest showers have brought some moderation in temperatures, though the forecast of another spell of heavy rain means residents in low-lying and vulnerable areas may need to remain cautious over the next couple of days.
