Punjab: A public awareness event centred on the ‘Say No To Drugs’ campaign was flagged off by AAP MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, with participants from different age groups joining the initiative against substance abuse.
Speaking at the event, Meet Hayer stressed that tackling the drug problem requires more than action against those involved in the illegal trade. He said reducing demand and providing young people with constructive avenues should be an equally important part of the strategy.
“People of all ages, from children to the elderly, are participating,” Meet Hayer said, highlighting the broad public involvement in the campaign.
Sports seen as key to keeping youth away from drugs
He said encouraging youngsters to participate in sports could play an important role in preventing drug abuse. According to him, keeping young people engaged in physical activities can help create healthier routines and provide them with positive alternatives.
He emphasised that efforts to tackle the drug menace should therefore address both the supply and demand sides of the problem.
Government highlights sports spending
The AAP MP also pointed to the Punjab government’s increased allocation for sports, describing it as an indication of its focus on promoting sporting activities among young people.
He said greater access to sports and opportunities for youth could contribute towards building a healthier environment in the state.
The ‘Say No To Drugs’ initiative brought together participants from across generations, underlining the message that combating substance abuse requires wider community involvement.
Hayer’s remarks come amid continued efforts in Punjab to raise awareness about drug abuse and encourage young people to adopt healthier and more productive lifestyles.
