Delhi HC Issues Notice in Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000-Crore Estate Dispute Involving Karisma Kapoor’s Children

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has issued notice on a lawsuit filed by Karisma Kapoor’s two children concerning the vast ₹30,000-crore estate of their late father, industrialist Sunjay Kapur.

Justice Jyoti Singh asked Sunjay’s widow, Priya Sachdeva Kapur, to provide a complete inventory of his assets, both movable and immovable, along with her reply. The Court directed that written statements be filed within two weeks and rejoinders within a week thereafter. The matter will be heard again on October 9.

Represented through their mother, the children allege that Priya Kapur produced a forged and unregistered will in a bid to seize control of the estate. Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani argued that the will surfaced suddenly at a hotel reading, raising doubts about its authenticity.

Priya’s counsel, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, countered that the case lacks merit, stressing the children already benefit from the trust and recently received ₹1,900 crore. He presented the will in Court and agreed to share it with the plaintiffs under a non-disclosure agreement.

Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, also intervened, expressing concern that her rights under the family trust were diminished after Priya’s entry into the family. She raised objections to a ₹500-crore sale of Sona Comstar shares to a Singapore-based entity without her knowledge, urging the Court to freeze estate dealings.

The plaintiffs seek partition of the estate, an account of assets, and an injunction against Priya Kapur. They claim Sunjay, who died in Windsor, UK, on June 12, had assured them of financial security but were later denied access to trust papers.
