Glasgow: India produced its finest performance of the Commonwealth Games 2026 so far with a spectacular medal haul on Saturday, led by an unprecedented showing from the boxing contingent. The country’s athletes collected medals across boxing, judo, athletics and para sports, helping India climb to fourth place in the overall standings with 38 medals—13 gold, 17 silver and 8 bronze.
Boxers Rewrite History
Indian boxers dominated the competition, securing seven gold medals to register the country’s best-ever boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games. The remarkable display also saw India finish at the top of the boxing medal standings with seven gold and three silver medals.
The women’s team spearheaded the success, with Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) capturing gold medals. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain settled for silver in the 75kg category.
In the men’s events, Sachin Siwach (60kg) and Ankush Panghal (70kg) clinched gold medals, while Jadumani Singh (55kg) and Narender Berwal (+90kg) added silver to India’s tally.
Judo Continues Historic Run
India’s success extended to judo, where Unnati Sharma earned a bronze medal in the women’s 63kg category after defeating South Africa’s Skye Knoester by ippon in the bronze-medal contest.
The medal added to India’s record-breaking campaign in the sport. Earlier, Harsh Singh and Asmita Dey became India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games judo champions, while Yamini Mourya secured a silver medal, taking India’s judo tally to four medals.
Athletics Adds to the Celebration
Distance runner Gulveer Singh continued his memorable Games by winning bronze in the men’s 5,000 metres. The medal came days after his silver in the 10,000 metres, making him the first Indian track athlete to win two medals in a single Commonwealth Games edition.
India also celebrated a double podium finish in the men’s triple jump, where Praveen Chithravel claimed silver and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran took bronze.
Para Athletes Deliver Outstanding Performance
The para athletics contingent also enjoyed a memorable outing. Soman Rana won gold in the men’s F57 shot put with a season-best throw, while compatriot Shubham Juyal secured silver in the same event.
India concluded its para sports campaign with seven medals, including three gold, two silver and two bronze, equalling the country’s combined medal tally from all previous Commonwealth Games editions. The athletes also registered a Commonwealth Games record and an Asian record during the competition, underlining the growing strength of Indian para sports.
India Climbs Medal Table
The outstanding performances across multiple disciplines lifted India to fourth place in the medal standings behind Australia, England and Canada. With one day of competition remaining, Indian athletes are still in contention for additional medals in track cycling and para track cycling, raising hopes of an even stronger finish to what has already become one of the country’s most successful Commonwealth Games campaigns.
