New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to introduce the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, according to the revised list of parliamentary business. The legislative sitting marks a pivotal moment in the session as the government moves to update key administrative frameworks alongside ongoing debates surrounding educational integrity and public service administration.
Concurrently, the Lower House is set to continue its detailed consideration of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. Union Minister Jitendra Singh is scheduled to steer the bill forward, urging Parliament to consider and pass the measure aimed at curbing examination malpractices and enforcing stricter penalties against organised paper leaks. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi is expected to address the House directly on the matter, representing opposition concerns over recent irregularities in national competitive tests and demanding greater accountability from central authorities.
Beyond educational reforms, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will bring the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, before the House for consideration and passage. The legislative push arrives amidst pushback from opposition lawmakers, including Trinamool Congress MP Sougata Ray, Revolutionary Socialist Party MP NK Premachandran, and Congress MP Dean Kuriakose, who have moved a statutory resolution expressing formal disapproval of the earlier presidential ordinance issued in May.
The parliamentary agenda also features administrative updates across several ministries, with Ministers of State Jitin Prasada and Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani scheduled to lay papers regarding Earth Sciences, Electronics, Information Technology, and Communications. Furthermore, a joint motion tabled by BJP MP PP Chaudhary and Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav seeks to extend the reporting deadline for the Joint Committee examining the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill and related Union Territory laws through to the winter session of 2026. Ministers L Murugan and Satish Chandra Dubey are also slated to deliver status updates on standing committee recommendations covering fake news regulation, sugar industry evaluations, and science research grants.
