Chandigarh: In a significant success against organised crime, the Punjab Police has secured the deportation of alleged gangster Jobanjit Singh, also known as Joban Billa, from Indonesia following an extensive international operation. The accused, who had been evading Indian law enforcement while allegedly moving across multiple countries, was brought back to Punjab after being traced in Jakarta.
The operation was carried out by the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Punjab, in coordination with OFTEC Punjab and several central agencies. Officials described the development as a major step in the state’s campaign against fugitives operating from abroad.
According to the police, Joban Billa is wanted in several serious criminal cases, including multiple murder investigations, attempted murder, offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and violations of the Arms Act. Authorities said he is specifically wanted in four separate murder cases registered in Punjab.
Investigators revealed that the extradition followed Operation Nomad Hunt, a six-month-long intelligence-driven mission that relied on international cooperation, continuous surveillance and coordinated efforts among national and overseas agencies. The operation focused on tracking the accused’s movements and gathering evidence before initiating the legal process for his return to India.
Punjab Police said the successful deportation demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration between domestic and international enforcement agencies in tracking fugitives involved in organised crime. Officials noted that criminals attempting to escape prosecution by leaving the country would continue to face legal action, regardless of where they are hiding.
The police reiterated their commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks and ensuring that individuals accused of serious offences are brought before the courts. Authorities added that similar efforts against other absconding gangsters operating from foreign countries will continue in the coming months.
