New Delhi: Security has been further intensified across the national capital as the ongoing agitation led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) entered its fourth consecutive day. With authorities anticipating a larger turnout over the weekend, Delhi Police has strengthened barricading at several key locations and increased deployment of personnel across sensitive areas. Multiple security layers have been created around protest-prone zones, particularly near Jantar Mantar and other parts of central Delhi. Police have reinforced iron barricades with heavy chains and permanent fixtures to prevent them from being moved or dismantled during demonstrations. Officials said these measures are intended to maintain public order and restrict unauthorized movement toward high-security zones.
The heightened alert has also impacted public transport. Eighteen Delhi Metro stations remain closed for the fourth straight day as a precautionary step, while commuters have been advised to check travel updates before planning their journeys.
Apart from physical barricades, surveillance has also been expanded. Senior police officials have instructed district units to maintain strict vigilance in New Delhi, Central Delhi, and North Delhi, where protest-related activities are expected to intensify. Additional personnel have been deployed, and local police stations have been directed to closely monitor individuals with criminal backgrounds to prevent any attempt to exploit the situation.
Meanwhile, fresh concerns have been raised over the security arrangements surrounding activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently admitted to Medanta Hospital. His wife, Gitanjali Angmo, questioned the heavy police presence at the hospital, alleging that security personnel were stationed at multiple points, including the entrance, reception area, lifts, and outside the intensive care unit.
In a post on social media, Angmo claimed that access to Wangchuk was being regulated by police despite a court observation that he was not under detention. She questioned the legal basis for the restrictions and called for greater transparency regarding the role of law enforcement in such circumstances.
The CJP has been leading nationwide demonstrations demanding reforms in the public examination system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy. Although the Centre has held discussions with party representatives, the protests have continued, with organisers maintaining that they will not withdraw until their primary demands are addressed.
Delhi Police has appealed to demonstrators to remain peaceful and cooperate with authorities, while security agencies continue to monitor the situation amid expectations of increased public participation over the coming days.
