Mumbai: A major fire broke out on the top floor of Dalmia School in Mira Road near Mumbai on Wednesday morning, causing extensive damage to the educational institute’s infrastructure. The blaze completely gutted the school’s library, auditorium, science laboratories, and several classrooms. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported as school authorities acted swiftly to ensure the safe evacuation of all students and staff members from the premises.
According to fire officials, the emergency was reported at around 6:00 AM, with thick plumes of black smoke and flames billowing from the top floor of the building, located near the ISKCON Temple. The Chief Fire Officer of the local civic body, Prakash Borade, stated that the fire originated in the school auditorium before rapidly spreading to a battery backup room situated on the sixth floor.
A team of eight fire engines and four water tankers rushed to the scene to battle the inferno. Firefighters utilized hydraulic ladders to reach the upper storeys of the building, successfully bringing the flames under control after approximately 90 minutes of intensive firefighting. Personnel remained on-site for several hours to conduct essential cooling operations and prevent any potential re-ignition.
While the incident has resulted in severe structural and material damage to the school’s facilities, a formal investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blaze. Local authorities will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the structural integrity of the upper floors before the affected areas can be cleared for future use.
