Amritsar: In a heartfelt gesture, renowned Punjabi singer Mankirt Aulakh has pledged Rs 5 crore to assist families affected by the ongoing floods in Punjab. His announcement comes as thousands of residents struggle with displacement and loss caused by swollen rivers and continuous rainfall.
The situation worsened after the Beas River overflowed following the release of dam water, submerging several villages and farmlands. Rescue and evacuation drives are in progress, with the state administration, social organizations, and volunteers joining forces to bring people to safer locations.
Speaking about his contribution, Aulakh said he could not stay silent when so many lives and livelihoods were at stake. He emphasized that helping Punjab in such testing times is not charity but a responsibility.
Authorities have indicated that while immediate relief is being managed, long-term recovery will demand extensive financial and material support. Community leaders have welcomed Aulakh’s decision, calling it an inspiration for others to contribute towards the rebuilding process.
