Chandigarh: Panic spread in Chandigarh after the body of a young boy was recovered from the Dhanas Lake area on Monday morning. The deceased is believed to be around seven to eight years old, but his identity remains unknown.

According to initial information, a visitor who had come to the lake spotted the body and immediately alerted the police. Following the information, a team from Police Station Sector 11 reached the spot and began an investigation.

Police officials said no identification documents or belongings were found near the body, making it difficult to establish the child’s identity. A forensic team was also called to the scene and carried out a detailed examination. The team conducted videography of the area and collected samples for further analysis.

Authorities stated that the exact cause of death will only be known after the post-mortem examination and forensic reports are received. The body has been sent for post-mortem, while investigators continue to examine all possible angles.

As part of the probe, Chandigarh Police are reviewing missing persons reports filed in nearby areas and at various police stations to determine whether any family has recently reported a child missing. Officials are also trying to match the boy’s description with existing records.

Investigators have started examining CCTV footage from cameras installed around the lake and adjoining areas. Local residents and regular visitors to the lake are also being questioned in an effort to identify the child and reconstruct the circumstances leading to his death.

Dhanas Lake attracts a large number of walkers and tourists every day. It was during the morning hours that a passerby noticed the body and informed the police control room, following which police and forensic teams rushed to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have appealed to the public for any information that could help identify the child.
