Jerusalem/Tehran: Tensions in the Middle East intensified early Monday after Israel carried out a new round of airstrikes targeting military installations in western and central Iran, following an overnight barrage of Iranian missiles aimed at Israeli territory.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that its Air Force conducted precision strikes against what it described as military assets linked to the Iranian regime. In a statement posted on social media, the IDF said the operation was launched shortly after midnight and focused on strategic defence-related targets.
The latest military action comes just hours after Iran reportedly fired multiple missiles towards Israel in retaliation for recent Israeli strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, an area widely regarded as a Hezbollah stronghold.
Iranian media reported loud explosions in several cities, including the capital Tehran as well as Tabriz and Isfahan, suggesting that multiple locations may have been affected by the Israeli operation. However, Iranian authorities have not yet released an official assessment of the damage or confirmed any casualties.
The renewed exchange of hostilities marks another sharp escalation in the already volatile regional conflict, raising concerns about the possibility of a broader confrontation involving multiple countries.
Security analysts say the rapid cycle of retaliatory attacks has significantly heightened uncertainty across the region, with international observers closely monitoring developments and urging restraint from all sides.
The situation remains fluid as both Israel and Iran continue to exchange accusations, while diplomatic efforts to ease tensions face increasing challenges amid the ongoing military escalation.
