New Delhi: Admiral Krishna Swaminathan officially assumed command as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff on Sunday, stepping into the top leadership role during a period of rapidly evolving maritime dynamics. Upon taking charge, the Admiral emphasized that maintaining peak operational readiness and accelerating technological modernisation would be his foremost priorities to effectively navigate a highly complex and unpredictable regional security environment.
Addressing the media, Admiral Swaminathan expressed profound humility and gratitude for the appointment, describing the responsibility of leading the maritime force as the highest honour of his career. He noted that the Indian Navy remains actively deployed and fully vigilant to safeguard national interests, ensuring the country’s economic and security concerns are strongly protected against emerging maritime threats.
A cornerstone of his upcoming tenure will be a robust focus on capability enhancement and indigenous defence manufacturing. Admiral Swaminathan reaffirmed the Navy’s deep commitment to jointness, self-reliance, and indigenisation, identifying these domains as Key Result Areas. He outlined his intention to sustain the current growth momentum of the force, consolidate ongoing development programs, and aggressively integrate niche and emerging technologies into naval operations.
The incoming Chief also expressed collective gratitude to the outgoing Navy Chief, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, praising his highly meritorious service and successful leadership. Handing over the baton, Admiral Tripathi voiced immense satisfaction with the Navy’s recent operational footprint, highlighting its reliable interventions during global crises such as Operation Sindoor and Operation Urja Suraksha in West Asia. He expressed full confidence in Admiral Swaminathan’s proven professionalism and capacity to guide the Indian Navy toward greater heights.
