Ferozepur: The Ferozepur district administration has intensified rescue and relief measures after rising water levels in the Sutlej river flooded several villages. Authorities are working continuously to provide food, shelter, and medical aid to the affected families.

Deputy Commissioner Deep Shikha Sharma said that with the combined efforts of the Army, NDRF, BSF, and Punjab Police, more than 3,300 people stranded in floodwaters have been brought to safety. Around 400 residents are currently staying in relief camps where they are receiving cooked meals, dry rations, and other basic supplies.

She added that the road leading to the Hussainiwala Retreat Ceremony site was damaged by the floods but repair work has already started. The state government has assigned officers from different departments to oversee uninterrupted relief operations, while sub-divisional magistrates have been given emergency funds to address immediate needs.

Rescue teams using boats are evacuating villagers trapped in submerged localities. In a recent operation, the NDRF rescued 35 people from Nihala Lavera, Dheera Gharan, and Talligram. Citizens are being repeatedly advised to move to higher areas for their safety.

Medical camps are active in Habib Ke and Sultan Wala, while veterinary teams are treating animals in Bandala, Rukne Wala, and Gatti Rajo Ke. Essential items including sanitary pads, tarpaulins, and fodder are also being supplied to affected areas such as Fate Wala and Fatehgarh Sabhra.

At Bare Ke relief camp, 260 people are receiving shelter, food, and other essentials. Langar for the camp residents is being served by the Khalsa Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee under the leadership of Satinderjit Singh Khalsa. To ensure continuity of education, school staff are helping children staying at the camp with their studies.

Deputy Commissioner Sharma and SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu urged villagers to cooperate with authorities and shift along with their livestock to safer locations. For emergencies, residents can contact the district control room at 01632-244017 or approach local administrative officers.
