Delhi: The Delhi government has announced a strict set of rules ahead of Bakra Eid, warning that any violation related to animal sacrifice, illegal markets, or improper disposal of waste will invite criminal action.
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra said the Development Department has issued detailed instructions to ensure the festival is observed within legal limits and with proper civic discipline across the capital.
According to the minister, the sacrifice of prohibited animals—including cows, calves, camels and other restricted cattle species—is completely banned in Delhi. He stated that anyone found carrying out or attempting such acts will face immediate legal proceedings under relevant laws.
The government has also made it clear that animal sacrifice in public spaces will not be allowed under any circumstances. Open areas, roadsides, parks, and other public locations have been placed under strict surveillance to prevent violations during the festival period.
Authorities have further prohibited the setting up of unauthorised animal markets on roads, streets and residential lanes. The buying and selling of animals outside officially approved locations has been declared illegal, and enforcement agencies have been directed to act swiftly against offenders.
Special attention has also been given to sanitation and waste disposal. The government has warned that allowing blood or animal waste to flow into drains, sewage lines, or public roads will attract strict penalties. Civic bodies have been instructed to closely monitor disposal practices and ensure cleanliness is maintained.
Officials said sacrifices may only be performed at designated and authorised locations where legal permissions have been granted and hygiene arrangements are in place.
The Delhi administration has also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected violation to the police or the Development Department for immediate action.
The move is part of broader efforts to maintain law and order, ensure public hygiene, and prevent civic disruption during Bakra Eid celebrations across the national capital.
