PM Narendra Modi Trims Convoy Fleet, Pushes Green Mobility During Official Tours

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly taken a notable step towards promoting fuel conservation and sustainable travel by sharply reducing the number of vehicles in his official convoy during recent domestic visits, according to official sources.

The revised convoy arrangements were first implemented during the Prime Minister’s recent trips to Gujarat and Assam, shortly after his address in Hyderabad, where he appealed to citizens to adopt practical measures to reduce fuel consumption and strengthen the nation’s economic resilience.

Sources said that despite the reduction in the number of escort vehicles, all vital security measures required under Special Protection Group (SPG) protocols remain fully operational to ensure the Prime Minister’s safety during travel.

In another environmentally focused decision, Modi has also instructed officials to include electric vehicles in his convoy wherever operationally possible. Sources clarified that no new vehicles are being procured for this purpose, and existing EV resources are being integrated into official movement plans.

The move is being viewed as a direct reflection of the Prime Minister’s recent call for responsible citizenship and reduced dependence on imported fuel. During his Hyderabad address, Modi urged people to embrace carpooling, make greater use of public transport, and shift toward electric mobility wherever practical.

He stressed that patriotism today extends beyond defending borders and also includes responsible choices in daily life that contribute to national economic stability.

The Prime Minister had also appealed to citizens to reduce edible oil consumption to lower import bills and encouraged farmers to gradually shift away from chemical fertilisers toward natural farming methods to protect both the economy and the environment.

The message appears to be influencing state leadership as well. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav have also reportedly initiated steps to reduce the size of their official convoys as part of broader efforts to align governance practices with energy conservation goals.

Officials believe these measures send a strong symbolic message that public representatives must lead by example in adopting sustainable and cost-conscious practices.
