New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially announced the national squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, confirming that Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the side. Kaur, who famously captained the team to an ODI World Cup victory last year, retains her position at the helm, with Smriti Mandhana confirmed as her vice-captain. The selection reflects a high degree of continuity, as eleven players from the previous world-title-winning roster have been included in the fifteen-member group set to compete in England this summer.
The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 12 in England, with the Indian team launching its campaign on June 14 against Pakistan in a highly anticipated opening fixture in Birmingham. India has been placed in Group A alongside formidable opponents including Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands. The selection process was finalized during a high-level meeting involving Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Head Coach Amol Muzumdar, Selection Committee Chairperson Amita Sharma, and BCCI Secretary Devjeet Saikia.
A significant highlight of the announcement is the inclusion of Punjab-based cricketer Nandini Sharma, who has earned her maiden World Cup selection. Sharma joins a balanced squad that blends seasoned experience with emerging talent. The roster features aggressive top-order batters like Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues, alongside dependable all-rounders such as Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav. The wicketkeeping duties will be shared by Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia, ensuring the team remains versatile across different match conditions.
