Delhi: The national capital, New Delhi, recorded a noticeable rise in minimum temperature on Saturday, even as weather officials forecast light rain and storm activity over the next two days.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature at the Safdarjung observatory stood at 25.9°C, reflecting an increase compared to recent cooler conditions brought by earlier showers. Similar upward trends were recorded at other monitoring stations, including Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge, and Aya Nagar.

Despite the warmer start to the day, the IMD has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for the city, warning of possible light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds through Sunday and Monday. Wind speeds during these spells could reach up to 40 km/h.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, hovering between 38°C and 40°C, though intermittent cloud cover and rain may offer brief relief from the heat.

Meanwhile, air quality levels remained in the ‘moderate’ category, as per data released by the Central Pollution Control Board. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 119 in the morning, with forecasts suggesting similar conditions over the coming days.

Meteorologists attribute the changing weather pattern to atmospheric instability over the region, which is expected to persist in the short term. Residents have been advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes, especially during thunderstorm activity.
