Amritsar: In a significant crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking, a joint team of Punjab Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered nearly one kilogram of heroin in Amritsar near the India-Pakistan border, officials said on Thursday.
The operation was carried out by personnel from the Bhindi Saidan police station in coordination with BSF units after receiving specific intelligence about a possible smuggling attempt in the sensitive border belt. Acting swiftly, security teams launched a search operation in the suspected area, leading to the recovery of 980 grams of heroin concealed at a strategic location.
Authorities believe the seized contraband has a high value in the international drug market, running into several crores of rupees. However, no arrests have been made so far in connection with the seizure.
Officials said efforts are underway to identify those involved in the smuggling attempt. Investigators are also working to determine the origin and intended route of the consignment, with a focus on dismantling the larger network behind such activities.
A case has been registered, and surveillance has been intensified along the border region to prevent further infiltration of narcotics. Security agencies have indicated that similar joint operations will continue in the coming days as part of an ongoing drive to curb drug trafficking.
The latest seizure highlights continued attempts by smugglers to exploit border areas, even as enforcement agencies step up vigilance and coordination to counter such threats.
