Mumbai: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away in Mumbai on Sunday at the age of 92, with doctors confirming that the cause of death was multiple organ failure following prolonged health complications.
The veteran artist had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on April 11 after her condition deteriorated. According to Dr. Prateet Samdani, who was part of her medical team, the singer had been battling several health issues in recent days.
“It is deeply saddening that Asha Bhosle is no more. She had multiple medical complications and ultimately succumbed to multi-organ failure,” the doctor said.
The news of her demise was also publicly confirmed by Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar, who addressed the media outside the hospital.
Family members shared details regarding the final rites and public homage. Her son Anand Bhosle stated that people would be able to pay their last respects at her residence on Monday morning. The last rites are scheduled to take place at Shivaji Park in the afternoon.
Earlier, her granddaughter, singer Zanai Bhosle, had informed fans about her hospitalisation, citing extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. The family had requested privacy while treatment was underway.
Asha Bhosle’s passing has left the music world in mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the country. Her contribution to Indian music, spanning over eight decades, remains unmatched, and her voice continues to live on through timeless songs cherished by generations.
