Tensions Resurface as US-Iran Ceasefire Faces Pressure Ahead of Fresh Talks

Washington/Tehran: The temporary truce between the United States and Iran is showing visible cracks just days after its announcement, with both sides trading accusations over compliance and regional tensions continuing to escalate.

US President Donald Trump has publicly criticised Iran for failing to ensure smooth oil transit through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. In a social media post, he said Tehran was not meeting agreed conditions, warning that the situation could undermine the fragile ceasefire.

The two-week pause in hostilities, intended to create space for diplomatic engagement, is now under strain as Washington alleges that Iran has not lifted restrictions affecting oil shipments. The disruption has contributed to significant pressure on global energy supplies, with markets closely monitoring developments.

Tehran, however, has pointed to ongoing Israeli military actions in Lebanon as a key reason for its stance. Iranian officials have argued that continued strikes in the region contradict the spirit of the ceasefire agreement and complicate efforts to stabilise the situation.

The uneasy calm comes ahead of planned negotiations between US and Iranian representatives in Pakistan, where both sides are expected to discuss terms aimed at de-escalating the conflict.

Despite diplomatic efforts, the situation remains volatile, with no clear indication that oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz will return to normal levels soon. Analysts warn that unless both parties adhere to commitments, the risk of renewed escalation could grow significantly.
