Yamunanagar: A powerful explosion in a factory-linked residential area in Yamunanagar, Haryana, left ten people critically injured on Thursday morning, sending shockwaves through the locality and raising concerns over unsafe handling of cooking gas.

The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. when liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was reportedly being transferred from a larger cylinder into a smaller one inside a residential unit occupied by migrant worker families. Authorities suspect a gas leak during the process led to a sudden and intense blast, followed by a fire that quickly spread through the room.

The explosion was so severe that walls of the quarters collapsed, while ceilings developed visible cracks, indicating the force of the impact. The affected housing complex consists of multiple units where families of factory workers reside, with several people present at the time of the incident.

Among those injured are four children and two women, many of whom sustained serious burn injuries. Some of the victims were rushed to Jagadhri Civil Hospital for immediate treatment, while those in critical condition were later referred to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research for advanced care.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blast created panic across the area, drawing residents out of their homes as they rushed to help those trapped inside. Emergency responders, including the ‘112’ service team, reached the spot shortly after receiving alerts and assisted in rescue operations.

Officials noted that the situation could have been far worse if additional gas cylinders present at the site had ignited. Many workers had already left for their jobs earlier in the morning, which likely prevented a higher number of casualties.

A forensic team has begun examining the scene to determine the exact sequence of events and identify lapses, if any, in safety practices. Meanwhile, families of the injured remain in distress as authorities continue their investigation into the tragic incident.
