Los Angeles: American premium network HBO has released the first teaser for its highly anticipated Harry Potter series, offering fans an early look at a new generation of characters and a reimagined Hogwarts. The eight-episode first season is scheduled to premiere on Christmas 2026 and will stream exclusively on HBO Max.
The nearly two-minute teaser opens at the Dursley residence, introducing Harry Potter, played by Dominic McLaughlin, as he endures life under the stairs and faces mistreatment from his relatives. The footage follows his journey from receiving his Hogwarts acceptance letter to meeting Hagrid and entering the magical world via Platform 9¾.
The teaser also captures key moments such as Harry’s first wand purchase from Garrick Ollivander, his initial friendship with Ron and Hermione, and glimpses of Hogwarts traditions including the Sorting Hat ceremony and Quidditch matches.
Alongside McLaughlin, the series stars Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Veteran actor John Lithgow takes on the role of Albus Dumbledore, while Janet McTeer plays Minerva McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu portrays Severus Snape. Nick Frost appears as Rubeus Hagrid.
The supporting cast includes a wide ensemble portraying iconic characters such as Draco Malfoy, Neville Longbottom and the Weasley family, with the role of Lord Voldemort yet to be announced.
The series is based on the bestselling books by J. K. Rowling and is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes. It is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and Brontë Film and TV.
Planned as a decade-long adaptation, the show aims to cover all seven books, with each season dedicated to one novel through 2036. The project revisits the globally successful franchise first adapted into films by Warner Bros. between 2001 and 2011, beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
