Chandigarh: Punjabi singer Kamal Grewal has allegedly received an extortion demand of Rs 5 crore along with threats to his life from a caller claiming links to the Rohit Godara gang. The caller reportedly warned that Grewal’s stage performances would be stopped and his music career ruined if he failed to pay the money.

Acting on the singer’s complaint, Ludhiana Police registered a case on November 2 against Gilli Rana and others allegedly associated with the gang. The investigation is underway.

According to the complaint, Grewal owns a music company, JP Films, in Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana. On October 20, the company’s official mobile number received several missed calls and voice messages while the singer was performing at a Dussehra event in Patiala.

Grewal said he could not attend to the messages at the time. When he listened to them the following day, he heard a caller identifying himself as Gilli Rana and claiming to be connected with the Rohit Godara gang. The caller allegedly demanded Rs 5 crore and asked him to return the call immediately.

Caller Threatened To Stop Kamal Grewal’s Stage Shows

The caller allegedly warned Grewal that failure to meet the demand would have serious consequences for his professional career. He threatened to prevent the singer from organising stage shows and continuing his musical activities.

Two further threatening voice messages were reportedly sent from the same number. Grewal subsequently lodged an online complaint with the police.

The singer also told investigators that he received two calls from an international number on November 1 while he was at his Sarabha Nagar office. He noticed the missed calls the next afternoon and discussed the matter with his family and close associates before approaching the police.

Ludhiana Police Register Case After Singer’s Complaint

In his complaint, Grewal expressed concern for his safety and property and sought action against Gilli Rana and other people he alleged were involved in the threats.

Police registered the case on November 2. Further investigation is underway to establish the identity of those involved and verify the alleged gang links.

The extortion demand and threats remain allegations outlined in the singer’s complaint.
