New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasised the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in resolving global disputes, stating that armed conflict cannot provide lasting solutions to international issues. His remarks came after discussions with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, who is currently on an official visit to India.
Addressing the media after the bilateral talks, Modi said both nations share a commitment to the rule of law and peaceful engagement. He noted that India and Finland are aligned in their belief that negotiations and diplomacy remain the most effective ways to resolve global tensions.
Referring to ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the broader West Asia region, the prime minister said India supports initiatives aimed at bringing hostilities to an early end. According to him, sustained efforts toward peace are necessary to restore stability in these regions.
Focus on technology and sustainability cooperation
During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in emerging technology and sustainable development. They agreed to elevate cooperation in digital innovation and green initiatives as a strategic partnership between the two countries.
Modi highlighted areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced telecommunications including 6G, clean energy, and quantum computing as sectors where collaboration could expand significantly.
Trade prospects with Europe
The prime minister also expressed optimism about the potential benefits of the proposed India–European Union Free Trade Agreement. He said the deal could enhance economic engagement between India and Finland by encouraging trade, investment, and technological collaboration.
