Dubai: Indian sports icon PV Sindhu and actor Sonal Chauhan are among the many travellers stranded in Dubai after widespread flight cancellations triggered by rising military tensions in West Asia.
Air services across parts of the region have been disrupted following recent strikes involving Israel, the United States and Iran. The situation has led to the temporary closure of key air corridors over Iranian and Iraqi airspace, forcing airlines to either suspend or reroute flights.
Sonal Chauhan Seeks Government Assistance
Chauhan, who gained recognition for her role in Jannat, reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through social media, requesting help to return home safely. In her message, she said flights had been grounded with no immediate alternatives available and appealed for guidance from Indian authorities.
Visuals circulating online from Dubai International Airport show packed terminals and anxious passengers waiting for updates as uncertainty looms over resumption of services.
PV Sindhu Describes Frightening Moments
Meanwhile, Sindhu shared her own account of the tense atmosphere at the airport. Posting on social media platform X, the Olympic medallist described hearing an explosion near the area where she and her team were waiting. According to her, her coach had to quickly move away from smoke and debris as the situation briefly escalated.
Sindhu said airport authorities swiftly shifted them to a safer zone. She expressed gratitude to the Dubai airport staff, local officials, and the Indian High Commission for their prompt support and assistance during the ordeal. She added that while they are safe for now, the uncertainty surrounding the situation remains unsettling.
Airlines Monitoring Developments
Indian carriers Air India and IndiGo have confirmed they are closely tracking the evolving security scenario and coordinating with aviation authorities. Both airlines have advised passengers to stay connected through official channels for updates, stating that operations will resume once safe routes are restored.
With tensions still high and regional airspace restrictions in place, hundreds of passengers — including prominent Indian personalities — continue to await clarity on when normal travel will resume.
