SAHNEWAL / LUDHIANA — A tragic incident has come to light in the Sahnewal area of Ludhiana district, where a 19-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide due to mental distress stemming from a romantic relationship. The deceased has been identified as Aryan Yadav, a resident of Makkar Colony. Following a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, the local police have initiated a legal probe and registered a case against the daughter of the victim’s landlord for her alleged role in the tragedy.
The victim’s mother, Sunita, who works in a local factory, reported that the incident occurred on February 24 while she was away at work. She received an urgent call from her factory foreman, Rakesh, informing her that her son was unwell. Upon rushing home, she discovered Aryan’s body hanging from a ceiling fan hook with the help of a scarf. The sight has left the family and the local community in a state of profound shock.
In her official statement to the police, Sunita alleged that Aryan was in a relationship with Jyoti, the daughter of their landlord, Mukesh Singh. She claimed that Jyoti had been mentally harassing and troubling Aryan for a considerable amount of time. Sunita further asserted that this prolonged emotional torture and psychological pressure ultimately forced her son to take the drastic step of ending his life.
The Sahnewal police have moved swiftly to investigate the matter and have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Jyoti under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with the abetment of suicide. Investigating officers noted that while the initial findings point toward complications in a love affair, they are exploring all potential angles to ensure a thorough inquiry. The body has been handed over to the family following a post-mortem examination, and further legal actions are expected once the medical reports are finalized.
