Pakur (Jharkhand): In a tragic railway accident in Jharkhand’s Pakur district, a 35-year-old man, his wife, and their three-year-old daughter were killed after being struck by a Vande Bharat Express on Tuesday night. The victims, identified as Chandan Sardar, his wife Rumpa (25), and their daughter Arpita, were residents of Rajapara in Pakur. The accident occurred at approximately 7:10 pm near the Nagarnabi railway station, which falls under the Howrah division of the Eastern Railway.
According to local reports, the family was returning on foot from a relative’s house in Vikrampur and was attempting to cross the tracks when they were hit by the New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22302). The impact of the high-speed train was so severe that all three died instantly on the spot. A heartbreaking detail emerged following the incident: the couple’s eight-year-old son, who had remained at home that evening, is now the sole survivor of the family.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, including GRP sub-inspector Ramesh Kisku, arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information to take custody of the bodies. The remains have been sent for post-mortem examinations at the Sadar Hospital in Pakur. In the wake of the tragedy, local residents have raised concerns about safety at railway crossings and have urged authorities to implement better awareness and security measures to prevent similar accidents.
