Chandigarh – The joint capital of Punjab and Haryana witnessed heavy rainfall on Tuesday, leading to severe waterlogging across the city. Several vehicles were submerged, and major roads turned into streams of water, paralyzing daily life.

The downpour began around 3 PM, and within an hour, Chandigarh’s scenic roads were flooded. The famous Rose Garden in Sector 16 was completely waterlogged, with fast-flowing water even entering the parking area of Punjab Kala Bhawan nearby.

The situation worsened near the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where vehicles were stuck in rising waters, and cars parked in the court’s parking lot were seen floating. Waterlogging also disrupted movement around the Punjab-Haryana Secretariat, while the underbridge between Sector 15 and 11 was fully submerged.

Traffic came to a halt on the Sector 17–18 road due to excessive water accumulation. The Meteorological Department reported 35 mm of rainfall in Sector 9 within an hour, though Sector 39 recorded only trace rainfall, highlighting the uneven impact across the city.

Earlier in the day, Chandigarh had clear skies and sunshine, but the sudden weather change caught many off guard. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall between August 22 and 24, warning residents to stay cautious.
