Indian Postgraduate Student From Karnataka Found Dead in California After Brief Disappearance

California: A 22-year-old Indian student pursuing higher studies in the United States has been found dead days after he was reported missing, officials confirmed. The deceased, Saketh Sreenivasaiah, was enrolled in a Master of Science programme at the University of California, Berkeley.

Sreenivasaiah, who hailed from Karnataka, had gone missing earlier this week, prompting concern among friends and family. Local authorities had issued an appeal seeking information about his whereabouts. According to reports, his backpack containing his passport and laptop was discovered at a residence in the Park Hills neighbourhood, raising further alarm during the search operation.

On Sunday (local time), the Consulate General of India, San Francisco confirmed that local law enforcement agencies had recovered his body. In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Consulate expressed deep sorrow over the development and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.

The mission assured that it is extending full support to Sreenivasaiah’s relatives and is coordinating with local authorities to complete necessary formalities. It also stated that efforts are underway to facilitate the repatriation of his mortal remains to India at the earliest.

Officials added that consular representatives are in direct contact with the family to assist them during this difficult time. The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation by local police.
